Sheru loved his parrot, Mithu, more than anything. The two
were inseparable — Mithu could mimic voices, sing songs, and even call Sheru’s name in a sweet tone. But one night, Mithu died suddenly in his cage, leaving Sheru heartbroken.
A few days later, strange things began happening.
Every night around midnight, Sheru heard Mithu’s familiar voice calling from the living room — “Sheru... Sheru…” Thinking he was imagining things, Sheru tried to ignore it. But one night, he saw Mithu’s cage shaking violently on its own. The next moment, the parrot’s voice
whispered, “Why did you lock me inside, Sheru?”
Frozen with fear, Sheru realized the truth — Mithu’s spirit hadn’t left. He had died wanting freedom, and his restless soul returned to remind Sheru of his mistake. The next morning, Sheru buried the cage under an old tree and apologized.
Since then, no strange voices were heard again… but sometimes, on a full moon night, neighbors say they hear a parrot softly whispering, “Sheru…”
